Nighttime Body Butter for Dry Winter Skin

Additional Information:

A chill is in the air.

While I love cooler weather, cold weather and I don’t get along. With four children who like to pass germs around, I wash my hands constantly.

his leads to dry, cracked, hurting hands. Ouch!

I have invested lots of money in lotions and remedies to soothe my poor hands. (And disappointed in most.) I’ve found the best solution is one I can make at home!

It’s also great for dry, cracked, feet. You can have sandal perfect feet all year long. I do tend to where flip flops all year long in North Carolina.

I love that I can customize it with essential oils. Essential oils aren’t only for when you aren’t feeling well! They are great additions to scrubs, lotions, and natural deodorant too.

With all the oils in this recipe, the result is super oily. I’m sure you add arrowroot powder to make it less greasy, but I put it on at night before bed so it’s not that big of a deal.

5 oz of Raw Shea Butter

4 Tablespoons Coconut Oil {solid form}

2 Tablespoons Avocado Oil {Grapeseed oil, Almond oil, or your oil of choice}

Essential Oils {see recipe suggestions below}

Add the Shea Butter and Coconut Oil to the mixer and blend well. Slowly add in the Avocado Oil. Mix until whipped.

Now you can add your essential oils.

Grapefruit is a great one to brighten up dreary days. I love the smell of grapefruit and bergamot together.

Lavender and cedarwood are a great combination for deep sleep.

Frankincense is perfect for the skin to help reduce the look of wrinkles.

Ylang Ylang is a calming, relaxing and soothing fragrance. It’s also been known to help you get in the “mood.” Maybe add in some rose essential oil for a romantic nighttime blend.

The number of drops of essential oil you’ll need will depend on how strong you want the fragrance. I would start with 3 drops per tablespoon and go from there.

I separate the base into smaller jars for a wider variety of options, but that’s up to you.

I store the base in the refrigerator. Last winter it did fine under my bathroom sink, but during the summer it turned a lighter color. It never smelled funky or looked like it was growing mold, but to play it safe, I tossed that jar.

I hope you love this body butter as much as I do!
